When, 23 years ago, the late Harvard president James Bryant Conant drafted his landmark educational blueprint known as the Conant Report, he called for bigger and better high schools and even urged that small high schools be "eliminated on a nationwide basis."Įvanston still fits the Conant model. Such large, comprehensive high schools have long been held up as models for the nation to copy.
